Julie McCrae

EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner

I am an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and BACP accredited psychotherapist with 18 years psychotherapy experience working in primary, secondary and tertiary education, psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient clinics. Over the last 7 years I have provided consultancy, training, and psychotherapy in private practice, as well as working as a Mental Health Practitioner at Trinity Hall for the last three years.

I offer EMDR with both adults and adolescents providing therapeutic support in a safe environment to enable the individual to build sustainable skills and emotional resilience to live a better happier life. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, usually known as EMDR, is a powerful psychotherapy technique which has been successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post-traumatic stress and other emotional problems. EMDR can be a rapid type of therapy, which can provide lasting relief, and is one of the treatments of choice for PTSD in the NICE guidelines (2005).

Special interests include clients who are neurodivergent (including but not limited to Autism, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Neurofibromatosis) and trauma survivors (including complex trauma), utilising both EMDR and psychotherapy to help clients work through their own healing journey, so they can start to move forward safely and gently in their lives. I have specialised and trained in EMDR, ACT, DBT and am a member of the EMDR Association. I have also trained in CBT, play therapy and person-centred therapy.

Having had the opportunity to live and work in several different countries has helped mould who I am as a psychotherapist today and I have been honoured to work with individuals, families and young people from many cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for several years in London with young disabled people who were at risk of social exclusion, supporting them into training, education, and employment.
