Child, Young Person and Family Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

Therapy available in English and Mandarin Chinese

I am a British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP) registered psychodynamic psychotherapist. I work with children, young people and young adults up to the age of 25.

I provide a safe and supportive space to help children and young people explore difficult thoughts and feelings, build emotional understanding, and develop greater resilience in the face of life challenges.

As children and young people grow, they encounter a wide range of developmental challenges, such as forming their identity, regulating emotions, developing cognitive capacities, and building social relationships. These are all normal parts of growing up. However, when stress or significant life changes occur (such as moving home, the loss of a loved one, parental separation, or academic pressure), it can become more difficult for them to manage their emotions and behaviour.

They may begin to experience issues with self-worth, identity and belonging, and struggle with feelings like guilt, shame, and anger. Sometimes, when big feelings are too hard to put into words, they might show up in the body, like having a nervous stomach, tension-type headache, or, in more severe cases, symptoms such as eating disorder or fibromyalgia. Our emotional and physical states are closely interconnected, and early therapeutic emotional support can make a difference.

My Therapeutic Approach

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I work by exploring the meanings behinds difficult feelings and challenging behaviours. Depending on their age and developmental stage, I may use toys, art materials or conversation in sessions to help them express and understand their inner emotional world.

Therapeutic goals are always tailored to individual needs. However, the overall aim of my psychotherapy work is to help children and young people express and explore thoughts and feelings that are difficult to speak about elsewhere, and to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships with others. Through the therapy process, they can begin to gain insights about themselves and build resilience to face life’s challenges.

My Clinical Experience and Areas of Interest

Before training as a psychotherapist, I was a qualified music therapist. I have been working with children and adolescent in the UK since 2011 across various settings, including mainstream schools, special schools and NHS child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). I now focus on my private practice.

Alongside my work with children who experience trauma, anxiety, and depression, I have  a particular interest in intercultural issues. Life transitions, such as immigrating or studying abroad, can be deeply confusing and affect one’s sense of identity and belonging. I also work with children and adolescents with autistic spectrum condition (ASC) and learning difficulties, supporting them to express their emotions, regulate feelings and develop social skills.
