Clinical Psychologist
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have over 10 years' experience of working with adults in NHS secondary care mental health services, and I have worked in private practice for the past two years. I am registered with most private health insurers including BUPA and AXA.
I am experienced in delivering psychological therapy for a wide range of difficulties including depression, generalised anxiety, health anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and PTSD and other long-term consequences of trauma. I also offer therapy to people who do not have a mental health diagnosis but who would like help to understand, cope with, and change emotional difficulties they are experiencing.
Clinical psychologists firstly work with a person to develop a shared understanding of the difficulties and how they developed. This is based on the history of the difficulties, early and later life experiences and underlying beliefs which developed from these, current ways of coping, and factors which might be keeping the problems going. This understanding then informs the goals we choose to work on in therapy. Every course of therapy is tailored to a person's individual situation. I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and also draw on elements of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) where helpful. I offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and use it as a main treatment modality for trauma related difficulties.
