Jessie Freeman
Trainee Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
I am a Associate Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, trained at the University of Cambridge. I provide talking, play or arts-based therapy for children and young people in a confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, and I offer a safe space where children and adolescents feel heard, understood and supported. For some young people, talking can feel too hard, or the words don’t feel enough. Using creative arts or play can help them to express themselves.
My integrative approach brings together a range of techniques and theories tailored to each child’s individual needs. Together, we explore the emotions, behaviours and relationships that may be causing distress, helping young people build greater awareness, resilience and confidence. Research shows that a trusting therapeutic relationship can create meaningful and lasting change.
I have worked as a counsellor in primary and secondary schools in Cambridgeshire, and I volunteer as a long-term youth group leader. Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked for children and young people’s charities for twenty years. My particular areas of expertise include public health, sexuality and gender. I have lived and worked in Africa and Asia, which has given me valuable insight into working sensitively across cultures.
I hold additional qualifications in Theraplay (https://www.theraplay.org.uk/), Dyadic Developmental Practice (https://ddpnetwork.org/about-ddp/dyadic-developmental-practice/) and Synergetic Play Therapy (https://synergeticplaytherapy.com/). I maintain an enhanced DBS certificate, and Level 2 Safeguarding certificate. I also have a Masters degree from the Institute of Social Psychology at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
I am a trainee member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), and I work within their ethical guidelines.
