Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

I’m a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist working with adults of all ages. I currently offer face-to-face sessions and, tailored to your needs and preferences, I provide:

·       short-term therapy (around 12-20 sessions)

·       longer-term therapy (around 18-24 months)

·       open-ended therapy

I offer therapy in English and German.

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy can support you in many ways, including helping you gain a deeper understanding of who you are and why certain aspects of yourself or your relationships may feel challenging. This understanding can open up new ways of relating and functioning.

It can also assist in processing complex – and sometimes painful - emotions tied to losses, chronic worries, or other difficult experiences you may have had.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I invite you to explore how your past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns influence your present life. Unconscious patterns may include hidden feelings, thoughts, wishes, memories, defences, and biases. Focusing on how these shape your view of yourself and others - and how they impact your life- can help you find new, more adaptive ways of being.

Central to my approach is creating a therapeutic space that is non-judgemental, safe, and supportive, and building a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and trusting.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is grounded in a long-standing tradition and supported by a strong scientific evidence base. You can read more about its tradition at Making sense of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis and about its research at Evidence base for psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

My experiences and qualifications

I completed my therapy training at the Tavistock Clinic and have seven years’ experience working with adults with a wide range of diagnoses, emotional difficulties, and relationship challenges, both within the NHS and the charity sector.

Before that, I worked as a psychologist for nearly 20 years in various mental health settings, supporting people with complex and longstanding mental health difficulties, childhood trauma, and loss of meaning in life.

Currently, I divide my professional life between therapy, teaching and research. Alongside my private practice, I am employed as a Senior Lecturer at The Open University and as an Associate Lecturer at Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I also serve the Society for Psychotherapy Research.

Qualifications:

·       Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (BPC accredited)

·       BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology, London Metropolitan Universit

Practical Details

Sessions are 50 minutes.

An initial phone conversation gives you the chance to ask any initial questions and see if therapy feels right for you. If you decide to proceed, we would meet for initial consultations (usually 2-3 sessions). These sessions provide space for you to share - or explore - what brings you to therapy and what you are looking for. They are also an opportunity for you to get a feel for my approach and see if we are a good fit.

If we decide to go ahead, we will arrange regular weekly sessions. If not, I will do my best to suggest colleagues or other services you might consider.

Fees

·       Initial phone conversation: Free

·       Initial consultations (50 min): £65

·       Weekly sessions (50 min): £75-£100 depending on income

·       Concessions: Please enquire for availability

I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC, Membership no: 23766) and a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP). I adhere to the ethical frameworks and code of conducts for these organisations. I hold a current DBS certificate and attend regular supervision.
