Psychodynamic Psychotherapist
I am a medically trained psychodynamic psychotherapist and I work psychodynamically in once or twice weekly psychotherapy with adults with a wide range of emotional problems, ranging from depression and anxiety, to problems of adaptation and relationship difficulties. I am also interested in psychological reactions to physical illness and physical reactions to stress. I work with people who have been bereaved or who are experiencing complicated grief.
Psychotherapy begins with an initial consultation where we will decide if it’s possible to work together in psychodynamic psychotherapy, or whether other psychological approaches would be more appropriate. The initial consultation is for up to 1 hour 30 minutes. The subsequent psychotherapy sessions are for 50 minutes. These are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
I take self referrals and also referrals from GPs.
I am also available for supervision.
Training and work experience
I am qualified in medicine and psychiatry and for many years I worked in a health service as a psychiatrist with adults and children, including developing a psychotherapy service for cancer patients.
I volunteered as a bereavement counsellor for UK Cruse Bereavement.
After qualifying as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I worked as psychotherapist in the NHS in a Personality Disorders Service. Subsequently I have been working as a psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice.
